  • Gastronomy in Dalmatia

Dalmatian cuisine is specific cuisine when it comes to food preparation. Richness of the sea and sea life, combined with herbs, like rosemary, bay leaf, basil, olives gives extraordinary smell and taste. Favorable geographical position allows good conditions for growing olive trees from which well known Dalmatian olive oil is made. Along Dalmatian coastline one can find different kinds of grapevine from which red and white wine is made (postup, pošip, prosecco). Dalmatian Parma ham is well known, and grilled fish, olive oil with spinach and potatoes, induced with Mediterranean herbs are turned instantly into gourmet speciality. These fragrant dishes have to be accompanied with good wine. Traditional Dalmatian cuisine has to tried as it is one of the healthiest in the world.

Our intention is to introduce the Gastronomy in Dalmatia, hence local restaurants and taverns along the nautical routes you may go. So, if you find yourself on island Hvar you will be able to visit some reccomended restaurant or tavern. On the other hand you may plan your trip according to the restaurants of your interest. It is all up to you.

Šćedro is an island by the south shore of the island Hvar, about 1 NM from Zavala on Hvar. It is separated by Šćedorski kanal from Hvar, and by Korčulanski kanal from island Korčula.
On the island there are about 30 inhabitants in summertime, and 15 in wintertime. Long ago there were two settlements Mostir and Nastane. Nastane have only two maintained houses today and the rest are ruins. There are dominican monastery ruins as well on the island.
There are no running water nor electricity on the island but there is enough water from built water tanks. Electricity is provided by generators or solar panels.
On the southern side is an airplane wing from the WW2, and the rest of the plane is in the sea. The island was called Torta in the history.
